Chattanooga Family Medicine Clerkship (FME-30000)
Students experience the breadth of family medicine during this 6-week, face-to-face clinical rotation.
Students will spend 2 weeks in the inpatient setting caring for medical and obstetrical patients and 4 weeks in an office-based practice, either community- or residency-based.
Students will experience a broad range of clinical presentations and participate in both inpatient and office-based procedures. Students placed with community preceptors might also experience home visits and nursing home care.
Every clerk will work at least one weekend night shift on an inpatient team. Students are responsible for writing H+Ps, progress notes, and discharge summaries while on inpatient, as well as completing several other written assignments, readings, and logging diagnoses and procedures.
Most community preceptors also allow student EMR access. This clerkship is one of several site options for the core clerkship in Family Medicine. Details about other locations are available on the UTHSC College of Medicine in Memphis Family Medicine Clerkship page.
