Head and Neck Cancer

We have speech-language pathologists who provide expert care for individuals affected by head and neck cancer, specializing in the assessment and treatment of swallowing difficulties (dysphagia), voice changes, cognitive-communication issues, and speech challenges following surgery or treatment. We offer pre-treatment counseling and baseline assessments to help you prepare for care and continue to monitor your progress throughout recovery.

Using Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), we assess swallowing safety and provide targeted therapy to reduce aspiration risk. We also offer lymphedema treatment to reduce external swelling and prevent long-term complications like fibrosis.

For individuals who have had a total laryngectomy, we provide comprehensive voice restoration, including esophageal speech, artificial larynx devices, tracheoesophageal voice prostheses, and AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) systems.  In addition, we offer monthly laryngectomy support group meetings.

We coordinate care for related concerns such as nutrition, trismus (jaw tightness), and the emotional challenges that may arise during treatment. Our goal is to help you regain comfort, safety, and the best possible quality of life.
