The UTHSC Pathologists’ Assistant program is in the process of obtaining accreditation through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). The program’s Initial Program Application was approved in May 2023. In August 2024, the program was granted Serious Applicant Status by NAACLS for having submitted the Self-study, granting its’ students eligibility to sit for the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC) exam. The program anticipates receiving its accreditation award in the Fall of 2025. The program is seeking accreditation from the NAACLS and intends to adhere to the following accreditation timeline:

  • NAACLS approved the UTHSC Pathologists’ Assistant Program Initial Application in May 2023.
  • In August 2024, the program submitted the Self-Study to NAACLS and received “Serious Applicant Status.” Students who graduate from the UTHSC Pathologists’ Assistant program are eligible to sit for the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification exam.
  • The NAACLS Site Visit will occur in the Spring of 2025.
  • The program intends to receive their initial accreditation award from NAACLS in the Fall of 2025.

Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) Approval:

The UTHSC Pathologists’ Assistant program received final approval from the on July 28, 2022.
