Walk-In appointments are available for those in crisis during typical work hours. Student Counseling Services is currently located in SAC 300 (top floor of the Student Alumni Center).

The Office of Student Counseling Services provides individual counseling and crisis support for currently enrolled students. There are no out-of-pocket costs or insurance requirements for counseling services provided by Student Counseling Services.
Our Services Include:
- Support from licensed counselors experienced in helping students navigate common academic, personal, and emotional challenges.
- Short-term, goal-focused individual counseling tailored to your needs. A counselor will help determine the most appropriate services for your goals.
- In-person appointments available Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Standard counseling sessions lasting approximately 45 to 50 minutes.
- A confidential, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment that promotes student well-being and academic success.
- Virtual counseling is available through . (Register using your UTHSC email address.)
- Hours crisis support available by phone.
- To make the most of your first session, please complete the required forms in their entirety prior to your first session.
- Students can be seen for counseling for any issue. There is no issue too small or too large.
- Student Counseling Services has trained and licensed counselors who are equipped to aid students in addressing challenging issues experienced while enrolled in school.
- Student Counseling Services is committed to maintaining a confidential, and nonjudgmental space for students, residents, and fellows so they can be successful in a stressful environment.
- Counseling records, by law, are kept confidential and separate from educational records.
- In the event of a crisis, someone is available by phone after hours.
- A standard counseling session is 45-50 minutes in duration.

Student Counseling Services is committed to providing a confidential, nonjudgmental environment that supports student well-being and academic success. All counseling records are confidential and not part of your academic record. No information will be shared with any other office or individual without your written consent and a signed release form. There are a few legal exceptions to confidentiality. Counselors must take action if there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult, or if required by a court order. Although these situations are rare, it is important for you to be aware of them. If you have any questions about confidentiality, your counselor will be happy to discuss them with you.

TimelyCare Services
TimelyCare is a free supplemental mental health resource available to all currently enrolled students. It offers access to 24/7/365 on demand and scheduled telehealth counseling services, with up to 12 sessions per year per student.
Services include:
- Up to 12 scheduled counseling sessions per student, per year
- Unlimited “TalkNow” access for immediate support with a licensed provider
- Bilingual and multilingual providers available
In addition to counseling, TimelyCare offers a range of wellness and support services, including:
- An anonymous, online peer support community moderated by licensed professionals
- Health coaching
- Self-care and mental health resources
- Medical guidance and support
- On-demand yoga and meditation sessions
- Care navigation services
- Assistance with basic needs

If you are concerned about the immediate safety of yourself or others, please call 911. Student Counseling Services provides 24/7 access to crisis support. During business hours, students may call Student Counseling Services and request to speak with a counselor. When the center is closed, students can access support by contacting the UTHSC Care Team at 901-690-2273, calling 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or using TimelyCare’s TalkNow on-demand services. After-hours crisis services are also available to campus partners seeking consultation regarding a student of concern by contacting the UTHSC CareTeam at 901-690-2273.
