Tutoring

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the tutoring services offered through the Academic Success. The identity of students who qualify for free tutoring is confidential.

  1. Each college/program will identify two courses for which Academic Success听will provide free tutoring, as available.
  2. Free large group tutoring will be provided, as available, through the second assessment/test/exam in the two courses identified by the college/program,听
  3. Following the听second assessment/test/exam, students qualify for free tutoring as follows:

    Group

    • D or F (or failing grade) on the most recent assessment/test/exam in听one of the two听identified courses.
    • D or F average (or failing) in听one of the two听identified courses.

    Individual

    • D or F (or failing grade) on the most recent assessment/test/exam in听both听of the identified courses.
    • D or F average (or failing) in听both听of the identified courses.

Students qualifying for free tutoring may receive up to a total of 3 hours of tutoring per week. If a student needs more than 3 hours per week, please email academicsuccess@uthsc.edu. Academic Success will randomly verify eligibility of students who qualify for free tutoring with the college/program.

Tutor FAQ's

I want to be a tutor, what do I need to do?
Students must have earned an A or high B in the course for which they would like to tutor.听 Students interested in becoming tutors should contact the Academic Success Tutoring Coordinator, Laura Battle. Academic Success will seek approval for all tutors from the appropriate course director.听 Once approved to lead Academic Success-sponsored tutoring, students must complete the appropriate paperwork and an on-line tutor training.听 Students may not lead Academic Success-sponsored tutoring until they have completed these steps.
I need a tutor! How does that work?
Through the Campus Wide Tutoring Program, Academic Success provides peer tutoring for all programs at Academic Success.听 Group tutoring is available in select courses for all students prior to the second assessment.听 After the second assessment, group tutoring is available for students with a failing grade, as determined by their program.听 Individual tutoring is also available on a case-by-case basis.听 Students interested in receiving tutoring should contact Academic Success听听or call 901-448-2940.
I am a tutor and need to turn in my time sheet. Who do I give it to?
Our Tutoring Timesheet Packet is available here. Timesheets are due biweekly and can be turned in at the front desk of Academic Success听or emailed to the Academic Success听Tutoring Coordinator, Laura Battle.
