Community Advisory Council

The Community Advisory Council (CAC) serves as the central advisory and guidance body for the University of Tennessee’s University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). It is comprised of individuals with disabilities, family members, provider representatives, and partners from across Tennessee’s disability community. The Council helps shape and advance the Center’s mission by:

  • Advising on long-term strategic planning and reviewing annual progress
  • Providing recommendations to enhance training, research, technical assistance, and service delivery
  • Offering a platform for stakeholders to voice views on disability policy, law, and program reform
  • Ensuring that initiatives are responsive to the lived experiences and aspirations of individuals with disabilities and their families

In accordance with the Developmental Disabilities Act, a majority of CAC members are individuals with disabilities or their family members. The Council also includes representatives from Disability Rights Tennessee, the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities, Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, self-advocacy groups, assistive technology and training organizations, and other community partners.

The CAC meets biannually to contribute to program review, planning, and development. Members may also participate in focused workgroups or strategic committees.

Join Us: We welcome new members from across the state of Tennessee!  Together, we can ensure UCEDD initiatives reflect the real needs and priorities of those we serve. Please contact us to learn more about joining the CAC.
