Memphis Scottish‑Rite and the University of Tennessee Center on Developmental Disabilities

Empowering Communication Since 1975

For over half a century, the Memphis Scottish‑Rite Foundation has proudly supported the Communication Disorders Clinic, a vital component of the University of Tennessee’s Center on Developmental Disabilities. This longtime philanthropic commitment is part of the broader RiteCare® Childhood Language Program, a national network of clinics dedicated to helping children with speech and language challenges, including those with autism spectrum disorder.

Rite Care, Scottish Rite Masons, Helping Children Communicate

What Is the RiteCare® Program?

Originating in the early 1950s in Colorado, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry (Southern Jurisdiction of the U.S.) launched an initiative to support children with speech and language disorders. Inspired by its early success, the program expanded into the RiteCare® Childhood Language Program, now comprising over 170 clinics, centers, and special programsacross the United States. Each facility is staffed by qualified speech‑language pathologists and trained personnel, providing diagnostic evaluation and therapy for communication and learning disabilities.

Memphis Scottish‑Rite’s Commitment

  • Local Impact, University Partnership
    • Through the Memphis Scottish‑Rite Foundation, local Masons raise crucial funds to sustain the Communication Disorders Clinic at the UT Health Science Center in Memphis. The clinic serves as an integral part of the Center on Developmental Disabilities.
  • National Legacy
    • The Memphis clinic is part of a nationwide tradition of Scottish‑Rite philanthropy. These efforts have enabled thousands of children to acquire essential communication skills and thrive in educational settings.
