Dual Degree and Optional Certificate Opportunities
º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½ College of Pharmacy provides pathways for student pharmacists to obtain a second degree while earning the doctor of pharmacy degree including a dual PharmD/PhD option. Opportunities are available for students to dual enroll at the University of Memphis to earn a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Masters in Public Health (MPH), or Masters in Instruction and Curriculum Leadership (MS-ICL).
Students interested in the evolving field of informatics can earn a Certificate or Masters in Health Informatics and Information Management from the College of Health Professions. The College of Pharmacy also offers select courses that lead to a Nuclear Pharmacy certificate or a Rural Health certificate.
PharmD/PhD Dual Degree

TheÌýGraduate Program in Pharmaceutical SciencesÌýprogram offersÌýDoctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in medicinal chemistry, bioanalysis, pharmaceutics, and pharmacometrics, granted through the College of Graduate Health Sciences.
The objective of the PharmD/PhD dual degree program at the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy is to train highly qualified pharmaceutical scientists for academic, industrial, and governmental positions and increase the number of highly trained clinician-researchers that can operate at the interface between basic research and clinical settings to facilitate faster translational innovations into the patient.

Whether you dream of owning your own pharmacy or serving as a director of pharmacy in the hospital setting, a Master's in Business Administration will give you that competitive edge. The UTHSC College of Pharmacy has partnered with the University of Memphis–Fogelman College of Business and Economics to allow student pharmacists to earn an MBA degree concomitantly with the Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
Masters in Business Administration:
- Courses offered online by the University of Memphis – Fogelman College of Business and Economics.
- 36 credit program.
- Six credits can be applied to the elective requirement of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
- Two select PharmD courses (6 credits total) can be applied to the MBA degree.
- Requirements:
- Completion of 1 year of the Doctor of Pharmacy program.

PharmD/Master of Public Health
As the US and global populations increase and diseases and therapies evolve, the need for leadership in health and wellness and healthcare institutions has grown. Healthcare professionals must seek to enhance community welfare and resolve complex health issues through advanced education, research, and service if we are to improve the well-being of communities in the United States and abroad. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy and The University of Memphis School of Public Health has established a dual degree program that allows students to jointly earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a Master of Public Health (MPH).
Master of Public Health:
- Courses offered by the University of Memphis School of Public Health.
- Core courses are available online.
- Option to concentrate in one of 5 core areas (some core areas with face-to-face coursework).
- 42 credit program (six credits can be applied to the elective requirement of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and nine credits from UT Health Science Center College of Pharmacy can apply to the 18 elective credits for the MPH).
- Requirements:
- Completion of one year of the Doctor of Pharmacy program.
- GPA 3.0 or higher.

PharmD/Masters in Health Informatics and Information Management
Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM) is one of the fastest-growing
professions in the country, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Employment
of health informatics professionals is expected to grow twice as fast as employment
overall. According to the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS),
pharmacy informatics focuses on medication-related knowledge and data within healthcare
systems. Pharmacists in this area of practice frequently work in multi-disciplinary
teams for the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of new health
care related technologies such as Computerized Practitioner Order Entry (CPOE), Bar
Code Medication Administration (BCMA), clinical decision support, robotics, telepharmacy,
and many other technologies.Ìý The Certificate and Master's in HIIM are offered online
by the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Health Professions,
and students can earn the Certificate or Master's while completing the Doctor of Pharmacy
degree.

PharmD/Master of Science in Instruction and Curriculum
Leadership
Educating others is a key responsibility as a pharmacist. Pharmacy students could
pursue a career that involves educating future pharmacists in the classroom and the
clinical setting. Additional training and knowledge in educational pedagogy can help
pharmacy students thrive as classroom instructors and clinical preceptors. In response
to this need, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy
(UTHSC-COP), and the University of Memphis, Department of Instruction and Curriculum
Leadership (UM-ICL), have formed a cooperative program that will enable professional
students enrolled in the PharmD program at UTHSCÌýto simultaneously earn a Master of
Science degree in Instruction and Curriculum Leadership from the University of Memphis.
