The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science offers the PharmD program, residency opportunities, and the Center for Pediatric Experimental Therapeutics.Ìý

The department was formed to meet the ever-evolving needs of the healthcare and education environments, making it one of the largest pharmacy practice departments in the country. The department aims to provide excellence in education, research, and patient care throughout the State of Tennessee.

First Tennessee Chair of Excellence & Professor, Department of Clinical Pharmacy & Translational Science

Brian M Peters, PhD is the First Tennessee Endowed Chair of Excellence in Clinical Pharmacy and Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy, with a joint appointment in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Biochemistry College of Medicine. He holds a BS in Microbiology from Penn State, a PhD from the University of Maryland—Baltimore, and completed postdoctoral work at the LSU Health Science Center. Joining UTHSC in 2015, he teaches microbiology and immunology courses, has over 100 peer-reviewed publications, and has been invited to speak at numerous national and international conferences. Additionally, he has mentored over 40 trainees and serves on various scientific journal editorial boards and NIH review panels. His research, supported by over $7 million in NIH funding to date since 2015, focuses on fungal-host molecular mechanisms, including vulvovaginal candidiasis and polymicrobial invasive disease, and involves collaborations on improving fungal infection outcomes in both adult and pediatric populations.
